Iron Man

Iron Man is the first movie depicting the Marvel Cinematic Universe and whilst I had already seen almost all its other movies, I had never actually had the means to watch the first one – until now. Whilst I picked the movie out of curiosity it actually turned out to be really entertaining and much better than expected - even my mum quite enjoyed it!

Robert Downey Jr plays Tony Stark, and really is the perfect actor for the job, the playboy genius who owns the biggest weapons company in the world – Stark not Downey Jr. After giving a missile demonstration to the US military he is kidnapped and locked in a cave surrounded by armed guards. You could say he was Stark between a rock and a hard place! Tony is forced to replicate the missile but instead designs and builds a super suit out of scrap metal and escapes, turning into a bit of a metal head. Unfortunately, his designs for the suit get used by the bad guys and he is forced to test his metal and battle his own creation. For once there was some ambiguity surrounding the ending – I knew there was an Iron Man 2 and 3, but it could’ve been the bad guy who moved the franchise forward…

The film, directed by Jon Favreau who also acts in it, was really funny and entertaining. There were lots of jokes and witty comments as well as cool sequences when Stark is testing out his suit for the first time. The film is graphically better than I expected, but a bit more graphic than my mum expected – she often had to look away. Robert Downey Jr was really believable and entertaining, and, overall I thought it was a really good film to watch.

Marks out of 10: 8.5

Mum’s five words of wisdom:
Robert Downey Jr is great!
The snooze news:
Did dad fall asleep during Iron Man? No, he didn’t! The only two films he hasn’t fallen asleep in are the ones that I chose. Coincidence?
